Cengiz (Patrick) Azimkar killed on 07/03/2009 aged 21 Sappers Patrick Azimkar, 21, from Wood Green, London, and Mark Quinsey, 23, from Birmingham were murdered at Massereene Army base in Antrim. They were members of 38 Engineer Regiment which deployed to Afghanistan the next day.The soldiers had ordered pizza and had gone to the barracks gates to collect it. Gunmen waiting outside opened fire killing the two soldiers and wounding four other people, including two pizza delivery men and two soldiers. A Dublin-based newspaper received a call supposedly from the Real IRA which claimed responsibility for the attack. The soldiers were the first to be murdered in Northern Ireland since Lance Bombardier Stephen Restorick was killed by an IRA sniper in 1997. British Army (BA)

Stephen Carroll killed on 09/03/2009 aged 48 Died when police were attacked as they responded to a woman's call for help. Constable Carroll was shot through the rear window of his police car at Lismore Manor, Craigavon, County Armagh when he arrived at the scene at about 21:45. Barrington Foster killed on 23/03/1973 aged 28 Victim of so called "Honey Trap". A single, Off duty staff Sergeant in the Duke of Edinburgh's Regiment. Shot shortly after being lured to a flat on the Antrim Road, Belfast. He and 3 other soldiers had been invited to a "party" by females they had met in Lisburn. The IRA entered the flat (as planned) and after searching the soldiers shot them in the head. One survived. Richard Muldoon and Sgt Thomas Penrose also died. British Army (BA)

Leslie Jarvis killed on 23/03/1987 aged 62 Mr Jarvis was employed as a civilian instructor in Magilligan prison prior to his death. He was shot dead as he sat in his car outside Magee College in Londonderry where he was attending night classes. A short time later, a bomb exploded in his car killing two policemen who were investigating the shooting. Mr Jarvis was survived by his wife and family. NI Prison Service

William McConnell killed on 06/03/1984 aged 35 Mr McConnell was shot at his home (Hawthornden Drive, Belmont, Belfast) while checking underneath his car for booby traps. His wife and three year old daughter witnessed the murder. One man was later convicted of the murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Joined the Northern Ireland Prison Service in September 1971 and served for over 12 years until his murder by the IRA on 6 March 1984. At the time of death he was a Governor in the Maze Prison.
